David is a seasoned safety and risk management expert with over four decades of experience across military, federal, and private sectors. His career began with six years of service in the United States Air Force as a Security Police Officer and Decontamination Team Member, where he developed a strong foundation in emergency response and operational safety. He spent 23 years with the U.S. Department of Labor at the Federal Bureau of Prisons, serving as a National Safety Examiner. In this role, he oversaw safety compliance across a wide range of operations including construction, healthcare, food service, transportation, powerhouse operations, and multiple UNICOR factories specializing in cable, power press, printing, textiles, and furniture manufacturing. Following this, he served for five years as a Federal Investigator with OSHA, focusing on whistleblower protections under 11(c) provisions. His investigations spanned the Surface Transportation Assistance Act (STAA), Federal Railroad Administration, Health and Safety statutes, and the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX), with findings regularly presented to the regional administrator. As CEO of Safety By Design Consultant Services LLC for six years, he led a team of safety professionals dedicated to making safety accessible for small and medium-sized businesses, with a special focus on Hispanic workers. He then spent eight years as a Senior Safety Consultant with Sentry Insurance, covering Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee. His responsibilities included delivering OSHA 10- and 30-hour training, conducting physical hazard assessments, ergonomic evaluations, and overseeing safety programs for industries such as automotive, aerospace, forging, retail, agriculture, and warehousing. A published author, he wrote the Amazon #1 bestseller The Faces of Safety and Those Left Behind When Tragedy Strikes, and created a multicultural children’s safety coloring book titled Coloring Your Way to Safety at Home, School, and Play. As a respected safety speaker, he has presented at numerous institutions including the Federal Bureau of Prisons, OSHA, Sentry Insurance, and most recently at the Northwest Safety Council in Ohio.
